Images are power. They can invoke emotion, change opinions and define a person, project or movement.
The NAACP works tirelessly to address inequality-facing people of color in areas such as economic sustainability and has tasked its Hollywood Bureau to advance their advocacy efforts throughout the entertainment industry.
During our 13th Annual NAACP Hollywood Bureau Symposium, we will explore the current state of the industry from the unique perspective of our guild partners – DGA, PGA, SAG/AFTRA and WGAw. Representatives will share how they assist in obtaining employment opportunities, which help to bolster the economy and promote financial viability within their membership.
This event will also highlight how each organization uses its collective power to create consequential changes and increase the visibility of people of color in front of and behind the camera. Through frank discussions, we will come to understand the guilds and their history of supporting members in creating, managing and interpreting the images that we see on a daily basis.
Additionally, we will delve into the issue of diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry, and what these organizations are doing to address the issue on a local, national and global scale. With the nation’s new environment, we will discuss the future process of doing business in the industry and how it will impact people of color.
Seating is limited and on a first come, first serve basis. RSVP is required.
