March heralded Prince's
induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame the first year of
his eligibility. That same month, he launched
the Top Money Making Tour of 2004 (according
to Rolling Stone 2/24/05) and simultaneously
turned "Musicology" into a certified
platinum selling album, racking up over
$2 million in sales. In an unprecedented
business tactic, Prince again used his acute
foresight by combining ticket sales with
album sales, thus creating his fastest selling
release in over a decade.
Even the approaching end
of the "Musicology" tour did not
slow His Majesty down. Paisley Park, his
studio in Minnesota, reopened as a full
service, state of the art facility with
the hint of possible "perks" in
the air, gaining more popularity than ever.
His website, www.NPGMC.com,
won several prestigious online awards and
has allowed fans privileged access to the
artist's music -- bearing the grass roots
of his soulfulness.
Coming full circle, 2005
began with Prince migrating to Los Angeles
where he stealthily embarked on covert projects
to which even his own staff was not privy.
His mysterious nature not withstanding his
mainstream vitality, Prince reintroduced
himself by throwing a post Golden Globe
party, which People Magazine dubbed as "the
hottest afterparty of the year." This
would be the first of many swanky soirees
that would have A-list celebrities vying
for an invitation to "3121, the party
place to be."
