Broadcast Training Program – MIBTP
Details:
Provides training opportunities to minority college graduates in radio/TV news reporting and news management, and TV/Film production. Selected applicants are placed in radio and television stations across the country as trainees. Training includes the development of writing, editing, producing and reporting skills. Org helps find graduates permanent employment within the broadcasting industry (although most are hired at the station that trains them).

EMMA L. BOWEN FOUNDATION
Details:
Established by the media industry to increase access to permanent job opportunities for minority students. Students’ work for a partner company during summers and school breaks from the end of their junior year in high school until they graduate from college. Corporate guide and develop minority students with the option of permanent placement upon competition of their college degree. Mentoring from selected staff in the sponsoring company is a key element of the program.

NEW YORK DGA ASSISTANT DIRECTOR TRAINING PROGRAM
Details:
A two-year program that provides opportunities for a limited number of individuals to become assistant directors in film, television and commercials. The program provided 350 days of on-the-job training, combined with seminars and special assignments. Trainees work on a variety of productions shot primarily in the New York area. After completion, trainees are eligible to join the DGA as second assistant directors.

Ideal for: Eligibility:Applicants must be at least 21. On average, the program receives 250-300 applications a year for six spots. Pay:Weekly scale begins at $540 and tops out at $663. Trainees are entitled to overtime pay. |

WRITEGIRL
Details:
Matches high school girls from underprivileged communities in Los Angeles with professional women writers who mentor them on a weekly basis in creative writing, journalism and other styles of writing. Mentors and mentees meet one on one weekly to develop writing skills and attend monthly full-day creative writing workshops.

CBS DIVERSITY INSTITUTE
Details:
Mentees in the writing and directing programs will be exposed to work in those fields through a working professional. Talent showcase applications will have the chance to audition for a role in a talent showcase.

INDEPENDENT FEATURE PROJECT
LOS ANGELES PROJECT; INVOLVE; IFP EAST
Details:
In LA, the program pairs 40 young men and women with mentors representing a broad spectrum of film making. In New York, the project pairs 20 emerging filmmakers with mentors; includes four fellowships each year for more experienced paid film professionals.

INNER-CITY FILMMAKERS: LOS ANGELES
Details:
Trains inner-city youths in all aspects of filmmaking and helps them find industry jobs when they graduate from the eight-week summer program. Youths attend a free summer workshop taught by industry professionals and instructors. Upon graduation, they are eligible to participate in the winter program.
